2/19/08 The Saline Fiddlers held a performance for COPE students. Click here to see a few highlights from the show, along with some thoughts from our students and fiddler students on bringing the two groups together. Thanks to the Fiddlers for a great show!

1/15/08 COPE held its first ever talent show! We are extremely proud of our participants, our staff & student committee, and our audience members for contributing to an awesome event. 12/20/07 Click here to see Telling It -COPE in conjunction with Students Act! This semester's exhibit featured a poetry reading and visual art works. Several COPE students not seen in this video also produced poetry & artwork and even ran the video camera. AIM creator Rodney Fryar debuted some of the footage of the Telling It project. AIM Mentors BMC & Scotty worked with COPE students, as did U of M students Morgain, Natalie, & photographer Sara. Thanks to everyone's hard work! COPE building mates RCTC Culinary Arts provided excellent food for the event.
Telling It! was founded and is led by U of M instrucor Deb Gordon-Gurfinkel.Michigan Campus Compact will serve as the Program Coordinator of Students Act and the Corporation for National and Community Service: Learn and Serve is the program funder.

11/30/07 Click here to see the Optimist Club of Ypsilanti award T-shirts and $50 savings bond to middle school students of the month. September's and October's students were recognized. We've very proud of our students and very grateful to the Optimists!

5/8/07 On May 17th, from 12:00 until 2:00, Telling It -COPE in conjunction with Students Act!, will present a multi-media exhibit. Click here to see what students have been working on. The students will be exhibiting their photographs taken under the instruction of award-winning Detroit Free Press photojournalist Kim Mitchell and display their creative writing. At 12:30 they will debut a CD of spoken word poetry and hip hop, with music by local producer Jay Fab and present a video documentary by Rodney Fryar with graphic design by Rob Bey. The CD and video will be repeated every 30 minutes. Enjoy food provided by the RCTC Culinary Arts department.

3/9/07 Rob the Drummer visited COPE students. He gave an insipriational message of using one's life passion - be it sports, music, science, or anything to motivate one's self, rather than substitutes such as drugs. 2/12/07 Our talented students have some serious skills. One student is focusing on getting work done in class, and using his creativity at appropriate times. He's able to compose, memorize and perform raps in under 10 minutes! Click here to see an example of his work. The project was a reward for focusing in class, and rapping in his free time.

11/30/06 COPE Girls' Group held a fundraiser. Each staff member had a task. For instance, wearing underwear on your head for the day or getting a pie in the face. Then people donated money for which person they wanted to see perform their task. One of the top earners was our Program Coordinator Mike Sharkey. He tried to evade the pies, but to no avail! 11/02/06 COPE students organized a 3 point basketball tournament. Click here to see a short video clip.

10/6/06 While COPE students are busy working on an original play, Bus Stop, they work a creative session. Drama Instructor, Deb Gordon, brings in Tom and his African drums. Click here to see a short video clip. Bus Stop will be performed at this years' Open House. Thanks to Arts Alliance for their support.

4/12/06 COPE Girls' Group made and brought baskets to youth in an area shelter. Click here to see a short video and photo clip. Thanks to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, Youth Council. Their grant helped to provide transportation for this project, and will assist the girls in future projects.
